VAT and RCT for carpentry & joinery work
Supply-and-fit construction services are charged at Ireland's reduced 13.5% VAT rate — unless the materials you supply cost more than two-thirds of the total price, in which case the standard 23% rate applies to the whole job (Revenue's "two-thirds rule"). If you're subcontracting for a principal contractor under RCT, invoice VAT-free instead — the principal self-accounts and withholds 0/20/35% depending on your RCT compliance rate.
A repair or install job (hanging a door, fitting shelving) is mostly labour and stays at 13.5%. Bespoke joinery with higher-value timber or fittings supplied is the work most likely to need the two-thirds check on a big job.
