VAT and RCT for electrical work
Supply-and-fit construction services are charged at Ireland's reduced 13.5% VAT rate — unless the materials you supply cost more than two-thirds of the total price, in which case the standard 23% rate applies to the whole job (Revenue's "two-thirds rule"). If you're subcontracting for a principal contractor under RCT, invoice VAT-free instead — the principal self-accounts and withholds 0/20/35% depending on your RCT compliance rate.
Most electrical jobs — a fuse board, a few sockets, a safety check — have materials that are a small share of the total price, so they stay comfortably under the two-thirds threshold at 13.5%. An EV charger or a full rewire with a lot of cable and consumer-unit hardware supplied is worth checking.
