VAT and RCT for plumbing work
Supply-and-fit construction services are charged at Ireland's reduced 13.5% VAT rate — unless the materials you supply cost more than two-thirds of the total price, in which case the standard 23% rate applies to the whole job (Revenue's "two-thirds rule"). If you're subcontracting for a principal contractor under RCT, invoice VAT-free instead — the principal self-accounts and withholds 0/20/35% depending on your RCT compliance rate.
A standard call-out or repair is mostly labour, so it almost always stays at the 13.5% supply-and-fit rate. A full re-pipe job with a lot of pipework and fittings supplied is the one to check against the two-thirds rule before you quote.
